Supporting children and teenagers toward educational success

AFEV Montpellier logo

Context

Social and educational inequalities can hold back young people's personal development, self-confidence and academic success.

Through its mentoring programme, AFEV supports equal opportunity by pairing volunteers with young people to offer individualised support, built on listening, trust and consistency. As a volunteer mentor, I supported primary and middle school students.

My role

Volunteer mentor, paired regularly with primary and middle school students, in a relationship of trust built over time.

My main contributions

Individualised support for young people

  • Building their self-confidence and encouraging independence

Supporting educational success

  • Helping organise their schoolwork and developing learning methods
  • Cultural openness and conversations around their aspirations
  • Recognising their progress

Building a relationship of trust

What this experience taught me

This experience taught me that educational support goes far beyond academic help. By building a relationship of trust and recognising progress, it's possible to make a lasting contribution to a young person's personal development and educational path.
